Loctite® and Motorsports

Loctite has had a long standing relationship with motorsports, in fact, the very first threadlocker application was... a carburetor screw!

As Premium Official Supplier to the Dakar Rally, Henkel (the company who makes Loctite, Teroson and Plastic Padding) have a commitment to delivering products that can cope in the most extreme motorsport conditions. Sponsorship is partnership: That’s why the company has gone to great lengths to provide you with products that face the most challenging conditions.

Henkel also have a rich motorsport history in other disciplines including:

Formula 1

Loctite has been a strong Technical Partner for teams such as McLaren Mercedes where over 80 Loctite product applications exist on each car.

Commenting on their association with Loctite, Ron Dennis, Chairman and CEO of the McLaren Group, said: “We choose our Technology Partners very carefully because they''re an integral part of the team and contribute to the winning process. We couldn''t build the car the way we want to without the use of adhesives and that''s why were pleased to have Henkel Loctite as part of this select group. The role their adhesives play is far more extensive than people understand. It obviously gives us peace of mind too knowing that we are working with a strong partner with the best available technology. And I can honestly say that during these five years whether it''s at the track or in the design office, Loctite have played their part in helping us make the difference on track”.

Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup really puts drivers and vehicles through their paces. Men and machines are exposed to tremendous forces. To withstand such vibratory loads or even compensate for them, race vehicle construction and maintenance depend crucially on Loctite® brand products. This is where the threadlockers, such as Loctite® 243 and Loctite® 270 show that they can deal with all kinds of challenges.

At the same time, high-tech Loctite® flange sealants with their excellent oil and temperature resistance, used on engine, transmission and differential, also contribute to the performance of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and the series model.

Indianapolis 500

For the over thirty years, The United States Automobile Club (USAC), the sanctioning body of the Indianapolis 500 specified the use of Loctite products on every car taking part in the Indy 500 race. This subsequently eliminated the need for scheduled race stoppages that were meant for sweeping out loose screws and bolts - enabling the faster cars we see today.

Thrust 2 World land speed record

In 1983 Loctite sponsored Richard Noble in the "Thrust 2" as he set a new World Land Speed Record at 633MPH.

World Superbike Championships

Team Loctite Yamaha entered the World Superbike Championships for the first time in 1989, competing for 9 years and winning the British title with Terry Tymer in 1990 and with Rob McElnea in 1991.

The team also competed in the famous Isle of Man TT races with riders featuring in no less than 8 tiers of the event between TT87 and TT91. In this time, Team Loctite Yamaha had 15 to ten finishes of which 3 were 1st place and another 3 were 2nd place.
